Young Gerda sets out into the unknown to search for her friend Kai, who has mysteriously disappeared. During her journey, Gerda befriends people, birds, animals, and a kind-hearted witch; however, she is unaware of the hostile, invisible enemy following her: the Snow Queen and her gargoyle apprentice, Louie. The evil queen is holding Kai captive in her ice palace in Finnmark, in the far north. Gerda and Kai finally escape the queen’s clutches and return home just in time for the happiest Christmas ever.
