Set in a village in Yozgat, *Sivas* tells the story of the powerful bond that develops between 11-year-old Aslan and Sivas, a battered fighting dog he finds in a ditch, wounded and left for dead. Aslan, who rescued Sivas and became his new owner, is disappointed when the village headman’s son—who is also in love with the same girl—is cast as the prince in the school play. In the competition to win over the village’s “princess,” Ayşe, Aslan manages to impress her with his new friend and takes the lead. Finding new hope in his life, Sivas also wins one fight after another, strengthening Aslan’s hand in the competition. However, when Sivas’s successes catch the village mayor’s attention, Aslan is forced to leave his princess behind and face an unexpected and abrupt confrontation with the world of adults.
