Algeria, 1938. Meursault, a quiet and unassuming employee in his early thirties, attends his mother's funeral without shedding a single tear. The next day, he begins a casual affair with his coworker Marie. He soon returns to his old routine. However, his daily life is about to be turned upside down when his neighbor Raymond Sintès draws Meursault into his shady dealings. Until one scorching hot day, a tragic event occurs on the beach.
