The Shining is about the metaphysical events that unfold after writer Jack Torrance moves into the hotel with his family, taking over the maintenance of the Overlook Hotel, which is closed for the winter season. Jack's young son, who has a supernatural intuition, gradually realizes that they are not alone in the hotel, that they live with ghosts from the past and the future, and tries to convince his family of this. When the family is stranded in the mountain hotel during a snowstorm, Jack is possessed by supernatural beings and slowly begins to lose his mind.
