Synopsis:

How can you watch young children celebrating the holiday in the schoolyard and not be moved when the air raid alarm sounds and they are forced into shelters? Time Stamp is a documentary in which Kateryna Gornostai travels to primary and secondary schools in several Russian-occupied and liberated cities in Ukraine, recording how students and teachers continue their education under war conditions. Competing for the Golden Bear at the Berlin Film Festival, Time Stamp not only presents a slice of a people's resistance, but also reveals how Ukraine's future is being shaped. This observational documentary, meticulous and masterful in every respect, is a mosaic of images from many different regions and schools. Patriotism and defense of the country have become part of the curriculum, and the film reflects reality as it is, without propaganda...

Is it possible not to be moved by watching little children being taken down to the shelter when air raid alarms ring while they happily celebrate a holiday in the school yard? Timestamp is a documentary by Kateryna Gornostai who visited elementary and secondary schools in the regions of Ukraine that were not invaded by Russia or liberated, in order to record how the education system continues during war. Timestamp, which competed for Golden Bear at the Berlinale offers fragments from the resistance of a nation and shows how the future of Ukraine is shaped. This observational documentary crafted with skills resembles a mosaic of images from different regions and schools. Abstaining from making propaganda, Timestamp conveys a reality in which patriotism and defense has become a part of the curriculum.
