Synopsis:

The City That Never Sleeps is an urban fable told in a New Realist style. In any country in the world, if there is a minority that is discriminated against and not treated equally and fairly, it is the Roma... Guillermo Galeo's debut film The City That Sleeps, winner of the SACD Best Screenplay award at the Cannes Film Festival Critics' Week, depicts the devastating impact of marginalization on his community through the eyes of a 13-year-old Roma boy. Toni lives with his beloved greyhound Rayo / Lightning, his best friend Bilal of Moroccan origin, his father Chule, a scrap dealer, and his family in La Canada Real, Europe's largest slum just outside Madrid. Not all of the neighborhood lives legally, and the authorities prefer to control the community by dispersing it rather than providing hygienic conditions. Toni's life is turned upside down by an urban renewal similar to the one in Sulukule and her father's debt...

Not all the neighbourhood survives on legal activities and the authorities prefer to disperse and control this community through urban transformation rather than improving their unhygienic conditions. Toni's life is shattered because of urban transformation and his father's debt...
