Synopsis:
In 2019, the Chilean feminist collective Las Tesis's musical and dance protest against rape with impunity spread around the world. Chilean director Sebastian Lelio, whose entire filmography is dedicated to women and who won the 2018 Best Foreign Language Film Oscar for Wonder Woman / Una Mujer Fantastica, has created a feminist musical inspired by this movement. The Wave, which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival, is about female students' rebellion against systematic sexual assault on a university campus. With energetic performances by its young cast, The Wave electrifies audiences with both its activist content and its aesthetic as a contemporary musical.
