Set in the 1960s, Tony Lip, a tough-tempered chauffeur of Italian descent, is hired as the tour driver and bodyguard of the famous pianist Dr. Don Shirley. The two embark on a challenging journey through the southern states of America in the racist atmosphere of the time. These two men from different worlds get to know each other and themselves along the way, and an unexpected friendship develops between them.
