Animal Kingdom

Thomas Cailley's emotional film, which wanders between science fiction and action, was screened as the opening film of the Un Certain Regard section at the Cannes Film Festival. As a result of an incomprehensible mutation, some people turn into animals. Some of these “creatures” manage to escape before being captured by the authorities. François and his son chase after his wife, who has transformed and escaped into the forest. “Thanks to this film, I had the opportunity to think and express myself about bodies and desires, drives and disorders, our wild side, what kind of world we want to leave to our children, the sense of belonging and even our common ancestors that are still around us,” says director Thomas Cailley. Swiss cartoonist Frédérik Peeters designed all the animal species featured in the film, from mammals to arthropods.
